EUGENE, Ore. – Decathlete J.J. Ply represented the Purple and White on the national stage for the first time on Wednesday, participating in five events and turning in two personal bests on the first day of the NCAA National Championships. Halfway through the decathlon, Ply sits in 16th place overall with a score of 3852 points behind a strong performance in the high jump.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ply came in fourth in his 100m heat with a personal-best time of 11.17 before following it up with another PR (7.05m / 23' 1 ¾") in his second effort of the long jump.
- Ply tossed the shot put 11.44m (37' 6 ½") in the third event of the day and then took fifth in the high jump with a height of 2.01m (6' 7").
- The Dayton, Nev. native closed out Day One with a 16th-place finish in the 400, doing so with a time of 49.92.
UP NEXT:
- Ply will close out his trip to Oregon on Thursday, taking part in the remaining five events (110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1500m) of the decathlon. Additionally, WAC Champion
Annina Brandenburg will compete in the women's shot put in the final field event of the day.
