ABILENE, Texas – The Abilene Christian football team is set to host its annual Spring Showcase on Saturday evening, allowing fans their first peek at the new-look Wildcats free of charge. The Showcase is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday from Wildcat Stadium, with gates opening an hour prior.
"Instead of just spotting the ball, we will do a lot of situational stuff and competition, and we will try to create a game-like atmosphere. We don't have any secrets, but we want to be fundamentally sound and know that we still have a lot left to accomplish," first-year head coach Keith Patterson said. "Our young men raise their level of focus on Saturdays, and I've been very proud of them to this point. This weekend will give us a better understanding of where each of our players are, and we'd encourage anyone who is excited about ACU football to come out and watch."
Each on-field competition will feature a point-scoring system that will be available to fans on the concourse level of Wildcat Stadium, along with a complete roster of players and coaches. Season tickets for the 2022 campaign can be purchased or renewed at the same location, by visiting ACUSports.com/tickets, or by calling the ACU ticket office at 325-674-CATS (2287).
ACU students in attendance will have several opportunities to try to win prizes in a variety of ways, including calling a play for a free iPad, kicking a 25-yard field goal for a gift certificate to Miguel's Mex-Tex Cafe, and the chance to field punts from an ACU player. Outside linebackers coach Conor Dubin will take on three students in the Buffalo Wild Wings Blazing Wings Challenge, where participants will attempt to eat five Carolina Reaper flavored wings in under two minutes.
Additionally, a Rally Cats Kickoff Kid (kids 12 and under) will have the opportunity to announce the official start of the game from the home sideline alongside the Wildcats.
"It is an exciting time to be a part of Abilene Christian Athletics, and we take a ton of pride in being the Big Country's Hometown Team," Deputy AD for External Relations Steve Harrell said. "We remain committed to producing one of the best in-game fan experiences in the state, and we are looking forward to a chance to do that once again at our Spring Showcase on Saturday."
