EDINBURG, Texas / CHICAGO – After the winter weather shifted around the schedule, the ACU women’s basketball team heads back on the road this weekend, taking a two-game winning streak down south for their rematch with UTRGV on Saturday. The Wildcats (14-7, 6-4 WAC) will then head up north for a reschedule date with Chicago State on Monday, Feb. 7, for the game that was supposed to happen Wednesday, Feb. 2. The week will encompass 2,529 miles of travel. Saturday's game at UTRGV tips at 2 p.m., and Monday afternoon's game at Chicago State will tip at 1 p.m. Both games will air on both ESPN+ and Monday's game airs on 102.7 The Bear as well.

ACU STORYLINES

  • WEEKEND SWEEP
    • ACU is coming off its second home sweep during WAC play this season, defeating UTRGV on Thursday, 88-69, and Lamar on Saturday, 66-54. The sweep moved ACU into sole possession of fourth place in the WAC with a 6-4 record. The Wildcats put together one of their best performances of the season against the Vaqueros, shooting 53% from the floor, scoring 88 points, and having four players put together double-digit performances in points. ACU trailed the game right away, 10-0, but responded with a 12-0 run in the second quarter, and built up as much as a 30-point lead in the second half. ACU responded with a big win over Lamar on Saturday, holding the Cardinals to just one point and zero field goals in the final five minutes of the game to win by 12. 
  • MILLER’S TIME TO SHINE
    • After her first career double-double at CBU, senior Madi Miller kept her impressive streak going this past weekend, scoring 18 and 12 points, respectively. Miller averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.0 steals in the two games. The Wylie, Texas native has now scored 10 or more points in eight-straight games.
  • BACK TO ACTION INSIDE
    • Redshirt junior Sarah Griswold was back in the lineup this last week, and made a huge impace Saturday at Lamar. Griswold missed just two shots (8-10); the eight field goals made were a career-best. Griswold scored 17 points, one shy of her career-high.
  • PROGRAM MILESTONE
    • The victory over UTRGV for the Wildcats was the 900th as a program. ACU started women’s basketball in 1971, and is in its 51st season on the hardwood. The ‘Cats have averaged almost 18 wins per season to date.
  • THREE-POINT PARTY
    • ACU has hit 205 three-pointers so far this season, the fourth-highest mark in the nation. The Wildcats have 12 games with double-digit makes from distance. The team ranks 34th nationally with a 35.7 clip from behind the arc, which was moved back to match the men’s line in the off-season.
  • COACH GOODENOUGH’S MILESTONES
    • Head coach Julie Goodenough earned her 485th career win against Lamar, and her 196th as the coach at ACU. Goodenough is in her 28th season overall and her 10th with the Wildcats.

SCOUTING UTRGV (8-14, 4-6 WAC)

  • The Vaqueros are coming off back-to-back road losses to NM State and Lamar. After falling to ACU on Jan. 27, the Vaqueros bounced back with a win over Tarleton.
  • UTRGV is led by Sara Bershers outside and Taylor Muff in the paint, as both average over 12 points per game. Muff got in foul trouble against ACU in the game in Abilene.

SCOUTING CHICAGO STATE (3-14, 2-6 WAC)

  • The Cougars are coming off road losses last weekend at Utah Valley and Dixie State, giving up 82 points in both games. CSU takes on Tarleton on Saturday before playing ACU.
  • CSU averages just 56.1 points per game, and is led by Aaliyah Collins' 15.9 points per contest. Collins has scored 28% of all of her team's points this season.
