Box Score AUSTIN – The 2021 soccer preseason schedule was highlighted by a trip to the state capitol to battle the Texas Longhorns Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. It was a hard-fought first half that featured a ton of defense and only seven shot attempts. Texas broke through in the second half to win the game, 3-0, but there were many positives to take away from the match. 23 different players saw time against a Power 5 opponent before the regular season begins next week.
"Tonight we had a plan going in and felt the players executed it well through the first half," said head coach
Casey Wilson. "In the second half, we got ourselves in a little trouble, and we paid the price a bit. Overall, though, we are happy with what we wanted from this game. It takes steps to build confidence and tonight was a good step forward."
The Goals
- 49' | Texas' Holly Ward scored to put UT up 1-0.
- 66' | Texas' Carlee Allen scored to double the lead for the Longhorns.
- 83' | UT's Sydney Nobles made it a 3-0 game.
The Numbers
- Texas led just 3-2 in shot attempts at the halfway point of the first half, and 4-3 in shots at the break.
- UT led 18-5 in shots for the game, including 9-0 in shots on goal.
- ACU forced the Longhorns into eight fouls, and only committed one on the night.
