ABILENE – The ACU Department of Athletics announced on Tuesday the selection of Jordan Herrod as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. Herrod brings more than a decade of experience in the industry and is set to assume his new role in mid-June.
"This is such an exciting time for ACU athletics," said Deputy Director of Athletics for External Operations Steve Harrell. "We must capitalize on our athletic success and highlight our students, coaches, alumn, and fans. We had an exceptional candidate pool for this position, but Jordan's experience, diverse work portfolio, leadership, and west Texas ties made him the perfect fit for us."
Herrod, a West Texas native, returns home after spending the last five years at Fresno Pacific, an NCAA Division II institution in California's Central Valley. He also has had stints at Texas A&M-Commerce, Lynn University and Belhaven University, where he received his Master's Degree in Sports Administration in 2015.
"I am blessed and eager to have the opportunity to join the ACU staff, as the university's commitment to success is evident. From the moment I set foot on campus for the first time, I knew Abilene Christian was a special place and one where I wanted to be," Herrod said. "Every place I have been has been filled with great people, and I think ACU will continue that trend. This move is a great fit for me both personally and professionally, and I can't wait to get to Abilene and get started."
Herrod was voted by his peers as the PacWest Conference Sports Information Director of the Year in 2020 after his first full year in the Director role. An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, Herrod served on the Creating a Unified Voice on Social Media panel last summer for the organization's first-ever online convention.
Herrod's primary duties at FPU have included media relations, graphic design, student-athlete award nominations, official record keeping, and budget management. Additionally, he has chaired multiple committees for the West Region, including the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Herrod has overseen coverage for all 15 sports at Fresno Pacific, including national tournament runs by the men's soccer and men's basketball programs. He also acted as a co-advisor for FPU's newly-formed Athletes of Color Alliance, a student-run forum designed to collaborate on issues of social justice.
"Jordan has meant so much to our Athletics department, student-athletes, and university community over the past five years, and ACU is blessed to be adding someone of his caliber," FPU Associate Athletics Director Jeremiah Wood said. "Not only is he a creative and talented individual that is dedicated to his craft, but he truly understands the unique opportunity we've been given as athletics administrators in terms of contributing to the holistic development of student-athletes. The athletics communications profession has changed immensely in recent years and Jordan has consistently proven himself to be ahead of the curve in terms of his overall skill-set and his understanding of the communications field."
