ABILENE -- Abilene Christian men's tennis suffered a blow to its Southland Conference tournament hopes after dropping a 4-3 decision to Incarnate Word Friday at the Eager Tennis Center. Wildcat points were earned by its No. 1 and 2 doubles teams and top-line singles players
Savan Chhabra and
Riley Tran.
ACU's overall and conference marks fell to 7-13 and 2-3, while the Cardinals improved to 4-7 and 1-2.
Chhabra and Tran also were victorious with their respective doubles teams in taking a 1-0 lead. Chhabra and freshman
Mihaly Deli beat Dennis Boisseau and Marwin Kralemann at No. 1, 6-3, and Tran clinched the opening point with rookie
Jose Maria Rastrojo at No. 2, beating Warren Fulgenzi Jr. and Joao Sasso, 6-4.
Chhabra would again best Kralemann in singles, 7-6 (6), 6-3, at No. 1, and Tran rallied from a set down to beat Sasso, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Today's victories gave Tran a winning record in conference singles and doubles play at 3-2.
Next up for the Wildcats is a rematch vs. Baylor. Their dual is slated to begin Saturday at 11 a.m.
