Box Score 1 ABILENE -- Abilene Christian men's tennis rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Southland Conference rival Lamar, 4-3, Thursday at the Cardinals' Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The victory lifted the Wildcats' season and conference marks to 7-11 and 2-2, while Lamar dropped to 7-7 and 0-1. ACU will concluded its eighth and final Southland Conference regular season at home Friday, April 9 with an 11 a.m. dual vs. Incarnate Word and play its final home dual the following Friday (April 16) vs. Southwest.
ACU lost the doubles point to Lamar, whom its now beat three straight times in their all-time series, and started singles with losses at No. 1 and 3 to fall behind in a perilous 3-1 hole. All the Cardinals had to do was win one of the three remaining singles matches to clinch the victory, but freshman
Jose Maria Rastrojo held off Brandon Do at No. 6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, and then junior
Riley Tran tied the team score at 3-3 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 triumph at the No. 2 line over Nicolas Mayr.
All eyes then turned to court No. 5 where senior Joaquin Delagao finished his comeback from a set down to beat Joshua Taylor, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-3.
