Golf tops six Southland rivals in Huntsville

ABILENE -- Abilene Christian golf placed seventh (30-over 894) of 15 teams and had four competitors rank among the top half of the 88-player field this week at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational hosted by Walden on Lake Conroe.
The Wildcats recorded rounds of 296-303-295 in defeating a majority of their Southland Conference rivals. Southeastern Louisiana finished seven strokes behind the Wildcats, and behind the Lions were teams from Stephen F. Austin, McNeese State, Incarnate Word, New Orleans and Nicholls.
Junior Francisco Osio (nine birdies) once again was the Wildcats' clubhouse leader, tying for 20th at 5-over 221. His classmate Brian Choe (11 birdies) also made the top 25 with a 7-over 223.
As a team, the Wildcats combined for 145 pars, 41 birdies and three eagles courtesy of Choe, Chase Allison and Jake Bay.
UT Arlington won the tournament at 13-under 851 as two Mavericks (Kyle Cox and Caleb Hicks) finished first and second.
