Softball heads to Lubbock for weekend tourney

ABILENE, Texas –  The Wildcats are coming off a home opening win on Wednesday night where they continued their offensive tear. They have hit 19 homeruns through 13 games this season and they will try to keep rolling as they head to Lubbock. ACU will head back on the road after being able to squeeze in a home game that broke up a 20-game road stretch to open the season. The team will play four games over Saturday and Sunday playing two each against Kansas City and Texas Tech.

SCOUTING THE ROOS (7-1)

  • Kansas City is 7-1 on the season and is currently on a five-game winning streak. The team is hitting .322 on the year. 
  • Mia Hoveland is coming off a Summit League Pitcher of the Week award after earning two wins and a save in a three-game series sweep of Drake. She had a 0.00 ERA on the week with 14 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.
  • The Roos utilize a small pitching staff with only two players seeing time in the circle on the season, Hoveland and Camryn Stickel. They have combined for a 2.33 ERA on the season.
  • Lia Lombardini leads the Roos, hitting .500 on the season, with two homeruns and five doubles. 

SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS (6-7)

  • At 6-7 the Red Raiders have played a tough schedule early with losses to No. 21 Arkansas as well as dropping two games to UCA and one to Texas State. 
  • The team is hitting .259 on the season with Karli Hamilton leading them at the plate hitting .382 with three doubles and two triples.
  • The Texas Tech pitching staff has a 3.78 ERA. Erin Edmoundson leads the way with 41.1 innings pitches and a 3.05 ERA. 
  • The Red Raiders are 13-15 on stolen base attempts.
