"Nothing goes exactly as planned in our sport, and we did have some individual off days," head coach Jarvis Jelen said. "That being said, this meet was as close to meeting team expectations for our combined program as we could hope for. This race gave us the momentum we needed to continue to improve heading into the postseason."
For the ACU women, Irene Rono continued her strong campaign, coming in second place individually with a time of 20:31.1. Rono has finished in the top two in each of her races so far this season and has already picked up a WAC Runner of the Week award for her efforts.
Prudence Kiyeng was ACU's next finisher, coming in seventh place with a time of 20:50.2. Tessa Holderman (21:30.1, 34th place), Grace White (21:35.2, 39th place) and Briahna Gerlach (21:43.0, 51st place) rounded out ACU's top five. The Wildcats finished just ahead of host Texas A&M and just missed team champion Lipscomb by less than two seconds.
On the men's side, junior Levi Chambers was the Wildcats' top finisher, coming in 50th with a time of 24:41. Less than a second separated teammates Kevin Kipkosgei (24:59.2, 74th) and Denis Lagat (25:00.3, 75th), while Gabe Embree (25:02.3, 78th) and Maxwel Kiplagat (25:08.0, 80th) turned in strong outings for the Purple and White.
The Wildcats return to the course on Oct. 30, when they head to Riverside, Calif. for the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
