McLeod, Mraz lead way against SFA

ABILENE — Anna McLeod and Kamryn Mraz led the way for the Wildcat women's basketball team Wednesday night against the SFA Ladyjacks. The game was neck-and-neck throughout, and ACU got within one in the middle of the third quarter. However, a few turnovers and a run for the visitors allowed SFA to pull away in the final quarter and a half to win, 73-52. ACU moves to 10-4 on the season and is now 3-2 in Southland play.

Turning Point: The fourth quarter.

  • ACU trailed 43-42 with a minute left in the third. SFA's Zya Nugent hit a three later in the period to push their lead to 46-42, and opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run. The complete 10-0 run in the game gave SFA a comfortable double-digit lead, and they pulled away, outscoring ACU 27-10 in the final 10 minutes.

Key Plays

  • McLeod hit an early three for ACU, getting herself off to a good start from distance.
  • Down 11-6, Mraz hit a three-pointer to keep ACU in it early. The Wildcats would fight back constantly throughout the night, showing a lot of toughness and heart.
  • Sarah Griswold scored six of the team's first nine points to open the second quarter, pulling ACU within 21-18.
  • SFA went on an 11-4 run to close the first half, leading 32-22.
  • McLeod hit back-to-back three's in the middle of the third to get ACU with 41-35.
  • Mraz then scored back-to-back buckets including a three-pointer and all of a sudden it was a 43-42 game with 2:31 left in the third quarter.

  • Alyssa Adams and Anna McLeod each played 39 minutes.
  • Mraz, constantly handling the ball against one of the top defenses in the country, played some of the toughest and gutsiest basketball of her career, only with13 points and only two turnovers in 37 minutes.
  • McLeod dropped 14 points to lead the team in scoring, and hit four triples, her most since the game at Texas A&M.
  • Adams scored eight points and added 12 rebounds, matching her career best.
  • Madi Miller and Sarah Griswold each scored six points.
