ABILENE -- Abilene Christian men's tennis extended its home winning streak to three matches and evened its season record at 3-3 following Friday's indoor doubleheader sweep of Oral Roberts, 7-0, and Prairie View A&M, 6-1, at the Teague Indoor Events Center.
The Wildcats are undefeated in their series against both schools since moving up to NCAA DI in 2014.
Against the Golden Eagles, all six ACU singles players won in straight sets and won two of three doubles matches, and vs. the Panthers, the Wildcats had two competitors (
Riley Tran and
Savan Chhabra) play three spots ahead in the lineup while
Cole Stokes and
Joaquin Delgado each recorded a successful spring debut.
Stokes, a freshman, won at the No. 6 line over T. Washington, 6-1, 6-0, and Delgado, a junior, swept Kevin Ugarteche, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5.
Further up the lineup sophomore Dimitios Azoidis pushed his spring win streak to four with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 over ORU's Barnabas Koncz, and later took down Prairie View's Jorge Caballero, 6-2, 7-5, in their top-line contest.
The Wildcats' homestand continues next Saturday, Feb. 8 with a 9 a.m. / 5 p.m. twin bill vs. in-state rivals Tyler Junior College and Trinity University.
ACU also will have a rematch vs. Prairie View, Saturday, March 7 in Waco.
