DALLAS – Three-consecutive singles victories from
Akinori Wada,
Dimitris Azoides and
Josh Sheehy provided Abilene Christian men's tennis with its sixth-consecutive win as the Wildcats held off SMU, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Mustangs' indoor courts.
ACU (11-3) started today's dual with its seventh doubles point, and after falling into an early 2-1 hole strung together wins at the No. 6, 3 and 1 positions for one of the team's biggest wins of the spring.
Wada kick started the rally with his win at No. 6 over Eddie Ross, 6-2, 6-2, and Azoides followed with a close 6-2, 7-6 (4) triumph over Roberto Rosales at No. 3 for his sixth-consecutive singles victory. Sheehy then held off Carles Sarrio in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, for his ninth win in 12 matches.
The Wildcats' doubles victories were courtesy of the No. 2 tandem of
Cole Lawson and
Jackson Fine, and its No. 3 duo of
Riley Tran and Azoides. Tran has a combined doubles record of 8-1 with three different partners.
ACU returns to action Wednesday, March 6 with a home invitational. Times and opponents are to be announced.
