ABILENE – Brothers Josh and
Jonathan Sheehy won the Wildcats' lone match Sunday at 13th-ranked Oklahoma, taking down the Sooners' No. 1 doubles team of Spencer Papa and Ferran Calvo, 6-4. Unfortunately, Abilene Christian went on to lose the next two doubles matches and all six singles contests in falling 7-0 to the 2018 NCAA qualifiers.
Josh nearly defeated Papa once more at the top line, but the Sooner senior battled back from a set down to win in a three-set tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-6 (8), 10-8. All other matches were decided in straight sets with
Jonathan Sheehy falling at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4,
Nikolas Moceanu at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, and freshman
Riley Tran at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.
Newcomer
Dimitris Azoides fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 in his Wildcat debut, and
Sebastian Langdon, who redshirted all of last spring, lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6
The Wildcats remain on the road all this week with three matches in Southern California vs. Azusa Pacific (Friday), Pepperdine (Saturday) and No. 9 Texas A&M (Sunday.
