ABILENE – Abilene Christian cross country runs its second set of races Friday in Lubbock with the men's 8K starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 9 a.m. Spectators are asked to park in the lot by the clubhouse near 2611 Frankford Ave. (previously called Chaparral Ridge Golf Course).
While in the Panhandle, the Wildcats will compete against the following schools in addition to the host Red Raiders: Eastern New Mexico, Hardin-Simmons, Lubbock Christian, New Mexico Highlands, New Mexico JC (women), New Mexico Military Institute (women), Odessa, South Plains Southwest (N.M.), UT Permian Basin, Wayland Baptist, Western Texas College.
The top-ten individuals in each race and winning team will receive awards.
The Wildcats last competed on Sept. 1 at their annual Naimadu Classic with ACU freshman Kevin Kipkosgei winning the Alfred Rugema 8K in 26:26.3 and junior Carnley Graham claiming first-place honors in the Casi Florida 6K (22:29.2). These victories earned the Wildcats a sweep of the Southland Conference Runner of the Week Awards, however, both team titles went to Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders won the men's title with 28 points followed by Ranger (56) and ACU (68), while on the women's side, Texas Tech edged the Wildcats by three points, 27-30.
