MCKINNEY – The ACU golf team wrapped up the 2018 spring season Wednesday with a seventh-place finish at the Southland Conference Tournament. Â

For the third time in five years Sam Houston State received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Championships, winning the tournament at 24-over-par 888 at the par-72 Stonebridge Ranch Country Club. McNeese finished as the runner-up with a score of 893, followed by Stephen F. Austin (915) in third place, Central Arkansas in fourth (56-over-par 920) and Houston Baptist in fifth at 77-over-par 941).

ACU finished at 80-over-par 944 after shooting 35-over-par in Wednesday's wet and windy conditions, finishing seventh for the second straight season.

Central Arkansas' Lewis George took the individual title carding rounds of 71-72-73 to finish even par and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

ACU sophomore
Bryce Dooley finished tied for 11th with scores of 74-73-81 (228), while
Kade Miller finished 21st after carding his best round of golf in the final day of the tournament going 3-over-par. The junior went 232 with rounds of 79-78-75 improving his game in each round.

Freshman
Alex Clouse went 27-over-par finishing tied 35th with rounds of 81-74-88 (243). Junior
Garrett Glanton and freshman
Daniel Seibert rounded out the playing five for the Wildcats with scores of 244 and 250 for t-37th and 50th, respectively.
