CHOUDRANT, La. - The Wildcat golf team wrapped up its third meet of the 2018 season, despite weather affecting the 14th Annual Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech. After a solid performance Monday, Mother Nature interrupted and forced the final day to be canceled. ACUfinished fifth as a team with a two-day total of 585, including rounds of 297 and 288.
"We're disappointed that we didn't get a chance to play [Tuesday]," ACU head coach Tom Shaw said. "Each of the guys believed we were going to build off our good play Monday and pass a few teams. All-in-all, it was a good performance for ACU golf."
The tournament was played at Squire Creek Country Club, and was ready for a 72-hole tournament. However, weather eliminated the final 36 holes, giving ACU its highest finish of the fall.
UAB won the tournament as a team with a total of 556, finishing two strokes ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Cincinnati Bearcats placed third (580), while the Lamar Cardinals were the top Southland squad at 583.
"It was nice to top most of our Southland Conference opponents on a quality golf course," added Shaw. "It was a nice showing from our guys."
Freshman Francisco Osio led the Wildcats with a -4 in the two rounds, carding totals of 69 and 71. Bryce Dooley tied for 20th with a 145 (76-69), improving seven strokes from round one to round two.
"I'm very happy for our freshman Francisco," said Shaw. "To record a top-10 finish in only his second collegiate tournament shows great signs for his future."
Garrett Glanton tied for 40th individually with a two-day total of 149 (76-73), while Chase Allison placed 67th with a 154 (79-75). Alex Clouse rounded out the five-some in 72nd place (156, 76-80).
ACU will have a week off before heading to Little Rock, Ark. for its fourth tournament of the fall. The University of Arkansas-Little Rock hosts the Little Rock First Tee Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22-23 at Chenal Country Club.
