ABILENE – Josh and
Jonathan Sheehy combined to win all four of their singles and doubles matches Saturday during a hard-fought 4-3 defeat for the Abilene Christian men's tennis team vs. Arizona at Oklahoma's Headington Family Tennis Center.

Henry Adams provided ACU with a 1-0 lead after holding on to win their No. 1 match, 7-5, over Arizona's Aaro Pollanen and Jonas Maier. Their victory followed a clean 6-0 triumph at the No. 2 line registered by
Josh Sheehy and
Paul Michael Domanski over Carlos Hassey and Igor Karpovets.
Arizona retook the lead in singles with wins at No. 4 and 6, but
Jonathan Sheehy's 6-2, 6-1 win over Pollanen at No. 2 momentarily tied the score at 2-2. Then Adams fell at No. 3, and
Josh Sheehy rallied from a set down to once more knot the dual at 3-3, topping Karpovets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Wildcats, however, were unable to complete their upset bid as senior
Hunter Holman fell in three sets to Filip Malbasic.
ACU's match vs. Arizona was one of three it played in Oklahoma during the weekend. The Wildcats began competition Friday evening with a 7-0 neutral-site win over their old Lone Star Conference rivals from Cameron and were then blanked, 4-0, by 18th-ranked Oklahoma Saturday night.
Josh Sheehy's match vs. Oklahoma's 17th-ranked Ferran Calvo at the No. 1 position was left unfinished with the scored tied at 3-3 in the second set after Calvo won the first set, 6-1.
ACU's 1-2 weekend gives the Wildcats a 2-5 record heading into this weekend's matches (Jan. 25-26) at the Kenlake (Ky.) State Resort Park, where ACU will face teams from Southern Indiana, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
