Dooley Leads Wildcats in First Tournamnent

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The ACU golf team had a solid start to the 2017-18 season, finishing 10th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.

The Wildcats finished the three-day event at 11-over-par with scores of 293-295-287 on the par-72 course. Wyoming took first with scores of 284-270-281 over the three days.

"For the opening event the team played very well," head coach Tom Shaw said. "This is by far our best finish in this tournament. It is a demanding course and typically doesn't favor teams from down south."

Sophomore Bryce Dooley led the Wildcats by tying for 24th 1-under-par 215 with scores of 70-75-70.

"I'm pleased with how the returners played, especially Bryce," Shaw said. "I'm also very happy with newcomers Kade Miller and Alex Clouse, who were both valuable contributions for the Wildcats."

Garrett Glanton finished at 3-over-par on the weekend with scores of 74-73-72 to tie for 46th.

Miller tied for 56th at 6-over-par 222 (74-73-74) over three rounds, and Clouse finished tied for 68th at 7-overpar 223. Junior transfer Cory Donnell rounded things out for the Wildcats with scores of 80-74-79 (233).

"We have some work to do to get better but this was a nice start to the year," Shaw said.

The Wildcats return to action Sept. 18 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
