Denmark, Grau voted 1st team pre-season all-Southland

FRISCO – ACU senior linebacker Sam Denmark and senior placekicker Nik Grau were each voted first team pre-season all-Southland Conference the league announced Thursday.
Central Arkansas led all conference teams with 12 pre-season all-Southland selections, while defending champion Sam Houston State has 11 pre-season all-conference picks.
McNeese and Stephen F. Austin follow with each earning eight selections to the pre-season teams. Houston Baptist and Nicholls both earned five while Southeastern Louisiana named four players. ACU, Incarnate Word (two each) and Lamar (one) rounded out the total selections.Both Denmark and Grau were voted first team all-conference at the conclusion of the 2016 season and were automatically placed on the league's pre-season all-conference team in 2017.
Denmark – a two-time first team all-Southland Conference selection –enters the 2017 season needing just 63 tackles to become ACU's all-time leader in tackles. He begins the 2017 season with 326 career stops (Ryan Boozer is the all-time leader with 388 from 1998-2001).
Grau returns for his senior season with a chance to finish as ACU's all-time leader in field goals made and second in career PATs made and attempted and in career kicking points.
The 2017 preseason poll will be revealed next Thursday, July 20, to kick off Southland Football Media Day at the Hilton Americas in Houston.
