ABILENE – Abilene Christian and Texas Tech resume their season series Tuesday at 6 p.m. with game two of its three-game set to take place at the Wildcats' Poly Wells Field. The Red Raiders defeated ACU earlier this season at Texas State, 3-0, and last year each team won on the road with Texas Tech winning here, 6-1, and falling at home, 3-1.
Live stats and video are offered for tonight's contest with
Grant Boone and
Mary Kate Rotenberry handling the broadcast duties.
Each side registered just four base hits during their previous meeting on Feb. 11 in San Marcos; however, half of the Red Raiders' hits were home runs off ACU starter
Sidney Holman that accounted for all three runs. Texas Tech starter Kassidy Scott scored the complete game victory by scattering four singles over 7.0 innings on just 79 pitches. Holman whiffed seven batters on 77 pitches through 4.2 innings.
After starting the year 3-8, the Wildcats have climbed to within a game of .500 at 10-11 thanks to consecutive winning weekends at home and in Stillwater, Okla. ACU won four of five contests two weeks ago vs. Northern Colorado and Prairie View A&M, and won three of five this past weekend at the Mizuno Classic, where the Wildcats were twice victorious vs. Tennessee Tech and once vs. Northern Iowa.
ACU hit .282 as a team with seven home runs and 26 runs scored. Right fielder
Alli Spivey led all Wildcats with a .417 (5-of-12) batting average, but it was shortstop
Peyton Hedrick who was most lethal at the plate as she slugged over 1.000 for the second consecutive weekend. The Forney, Texas native hit .389 (7-for-18) with four of those seven hits leaving the yard as she lifted her season home run and RBI totals to seven and 21, respectively. She also leads the Wildcats in hitting at .369 and is tied with
Taylor Brown for most runs scored with 17.
Holman, a freshman from Belton, Texas, worked the majority of innings in Stillwater and totaled 18 Ks through five appearances and 25 innings pitched. Her lone loss was a 5-3 decision to Oklahoma State, but she won both games vs. Tennessee Tech as both reliever and starter.
The Red Raiders come to Abilene with an 11-9 record after winning three of five games at their own invitational last weekend in Lubbock. Texas Tech won two games vs. UTEP, split a two-game set with North Texas, and lost to Wichita State, 10-7.Â
Devon Thomey leads the Red Raiders with a .392 batting average and is one of four everyday players hitting .300 or better – a list that also includes Jessica Hartwell, who is her team's leader with 18 RBI.
Scott is one of five Red Raider pitchers and leads her team with five wins, 2.52 ERA and 25 strikeouts.
