ABILENE - Abilene Christian softball makes its 2017 home debut at Poly Wells Field this weekend by hosting a three-team, three-day tournament featuring Prairie View A&M and Northern Colorado.
The schedule includes back-to-back tripleheaders Friday and Saturday and then the Wildcats and Northern Colorado will play a single game Sunday at noon. ACU will be on the field Friday starting at 5 p.m. and again Saturday at 11 a.m.Â

All three teams come into this weekend looking to bounce back in the win column. The Wildcats (3-8) went 0-5 last weekend in Tucson after going 3-3 in its opening weekend at Texas State. ACU started competition at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with a 6-5 extra-inning loss to Boston College of the ACC, and later fell to No. 10 Arizona, 7-0, in addition to teams from Ball State, North Dakota State, and Drake. Each of the Wildcats last three games were decided by three runs or fewer.
The Panthers of Prairie View A&M are 1-5, but have played in a number of close games against Southland Conference competition. After starting the year with a 10-0 loss to Louisiana, the Panthers were edged in back-to-back contests vs. Sam Houston State (L, 5-7) and Northwestern State (L, 7-8). They then split a doubleheader vs. Houston Baptist, winning game one, 9-3, and losing the second, 6-0.
The Bears of Northern Colorado are 1-9 and in the midst of a nine-game losing streak after starting their spring with a 6-5 win over Bradley at a tournament hosted by Grand Canyon. UNC lost three games to the 'Lopes in Phoenix in addition to dropping a 9-1 decision to Bradley. The Bears then went 0-5 at the New Mexico State Tournament where they lost to the Aggies, Oregon State, Bradley, DePaul and Tennessee.
