ABILENE - Wildcat soccer continues its non-conference season this weekend with a home match vs. Prairie View A&M followed by road test vs. No. 16 Texas Tech. Abilene Christian faces the Panthers for the first time in program history Friday at 4 p.m. and will visit Lubbock for the second time in three seasons Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both matches will offer live stats. A video stream of the Wildcats and Red Raiders can also be found at TexasTech.com.
After getting shut out twice the previous week vs. UTEP and Oral Roberts, the Wildcats (0-3-1) scored twice within the first 10 minutes this past Sunday against the defending Conference USA Champions from North Texas as senior Natalie Throneberry found classmate Danielle Otto and freshman Shay Johnson booted in junior Chloe Fifer's corner kick.
The Mean Green, however, soon cut their deficit to one on a 30-yard strike in the 22nd minute and got their equalizer three minutes into the second half. North Texas then scored its game-winner in the 56th minute in a goalmouth melee following a corner kick.
The Panthers have only played twice this fall and remain in search of their first victory. They lost their season opener to Texas State, 2-0, and a week later dropped a 4-0 decision to UTRGV.
The Red Raiders climbed to No. 16 in the NSCAA rankings last week after beginning their 2016 campaign with a pair of one-goal wins over New Mexico and Missouri State. Last week Texas Tech tied Arizona at home 2-2 and blanked Northeastern, 2-0.
No. 21 California visits Lubbock the Friday prior to the Wildcats' arrival.
Texas Tech defeated the Wildcats 2-0 in their first and only prior meeting in September of 2014.
