ABILENE – Abilene Christian softball resumes Southland Conference competition this weekend with a three-game set at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Game times are Friday at 1 p.m. (DH) and Saturday at noon.

Live stats and video will be provided through GoIslanders.com.

The Wildcats are making their first trip to Chapman Field after playing host to the Islanders the past two seasons at Poly Wells Field, where they own a 4-2 series lead. ACU swept Corpus Christi in 2014 and dropped the last two games of last year's home series.

The Wildcats suffered a tough loss Wednesday night to No. 21 Baylor playing in front of the largest crowd in Wells Field history (908 paid attendance) and enter this weekend a game above .500 at 21-20. However, ACU remains in very good position to catch any of the three teams ahead of them in the Southland standings at 14-7.

McNeese leads the league at 18-3 with six games remaining followed by 16-4 Nicholls and 16-5 Lamar. The Cowgirls and Colonels are on the road this weekend with McNeese visiting the Cardinals for a crucial three-game series, and Nicholls is at 5-16 Southeastern.

The Islanders (15-27) are last in the league at 4-16, but have won their last two games vs. Houston Baptist (1-0) and UTSA (8-6). Pitcher Liz Carter leads her side with a league-high 134 strikeouts and a .218 opponents' batting average, but her offense is only hitting .224 and averaging 2.1 runs per game.

ACU's team rankings within conference season are right in the middle with the Wildcats hitting .270 through seven series with the second most runs scored with 112. The pitching staff, meanwhile, has the sixth-lowest ERA at 2.88 with 75 Ks.

Sophomore shortstop Peyton Hedrick homered against Baylor with two runs and two RBI in remaining ranked among the league leaders in three categories. Her 10 home runs are tied for third. She's also tied for 10th with 31 runs scored and her slugging percentage of .615 ranks fifth overall.

Junior center fielder Taylor Brown is tops with seven triples and has 14 stolen bases, and in the circle, redshirt sophomore Hannah Null ranks fourth with 112 strikeouts and 149.1 innings pitched.
