ABILENE – Abilene Christian freshman
Miranda Herron Monday was voted Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after producing a 5-for-10 effort at the plate that included two home runs and a walk-off double.
Herron's week started with her first collegiate home run in a 3-1 Wildcat victory Wednesday at Texas Tech, and against Sam Houston State Saturday she went 3-for-3 in game one with a two-run home run and a walk-off, bases-clearing double.
ACU's win was its first against Texas Tech in 11 games, and her walk-off hit provided the Wildcats with their first-ever series win over the Bearkats.
In addition to batting .500, Herron drove in six runs in four games, scored three times and drew four walks. She also stole her first base of the spring in game three of the Sam Houston series.
Herron and the Wildcats have another busy schedule this week, which starts Wednesday night at 6 p.m. vs. No. 21 Baylor. ACU will then head south for a three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Wildcats (21-19) enter this weekend in fourth place in the Southland Conference, 4.0 games out of first place and 2.5 out of second with six games remaining.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
