Live Audio (98.1 FM) l Live Audio / Video l Live StatsABILENE – The ACU Wildcats continue their season-ending homestand Thursday night when they host Incarnate Word at Moody Coliseum.
Tipoff for Thursday night's contest is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast locally on 98.1 FM with The Voice of the Wildcats
Grant Boone calling the play-by-play action.
The Wildcats got the three-game season-ending stretch at Moody Coliseum off to a great start last Saturday with a thrilling 87-84 win over New Orleans in a game that saw the winning points scored on a buzzer-beating banked-in 3-pointer from near halfcourt by freshman
Jaren Lewis.
That victory – which was quite literally snatched from the jaws of defeat as ACU trailed by four points with 18 seconds to play – pushed the Wildcat to 13-16 overall and 8-8 in Southland Conference play. A win in one of their final two games of the season would give ACU no worse than a .500 record in conference play for the first time since 2007-08 when ACU finished 6-6.
Two wins for the Wildcats in their final two home games – Thursday night and Saturday at 4 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – would give the program a winning conference record for the first time since 1997-98 when the Wildcats finished 9-5 in the Lone Star Conference. ACU is 10-2 in all home games played at Moody Coliseum this season, including 6-0 in league play.
First things first, though, is a matchup against an Incarnate Word team that is 15-12 overall and 10-6 in the league. The Cardinals have won five straight over the Wildcats dating back to the 2013-14 season, including a 74-60 win in San Antonio back on Jan. 23.
Freshman
Jaylen Franklin leads the team with 16.3 points per game and is shooting 51.4 percent from the field.
Parker Wentz is scoring 8.9 points per game and is shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range.
Jaren Lewis is the team's top rebounder at 8.9 per game while
Jalen Little has dished out 109 assists.
After Thursday night's game, the Wildcats will close out the 2015-16 season with a 4 p.m. home game Saturday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
