ABILENE - Abilene Christian's men's tennis team collected 11 victories over three day of competition at New Mexico's annual Balloon Fiesta. This year's tournament featured student-athletes from five schools playing in a round-robin style tournament in which the final standings were determined by the number of sets and games won.
The Wildcats made the trip to Albuquerque without four of their best players – all of whom competed the previous week at the ITA All-Americans – but still came home with a handful of victories earned against higher-seeded competition. Â
Sophomore
Sebastian Langdon was ACU's top finisher, placing second of five competitiors in the No. 5 Flight. He went 2-2 with victories coming against New Mexico's Michael Tran, 6-4, 7-5, and Air Force's Dillon Launius, 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore
Cole Lawson additionally went 2-2 in the No. 3 Flight with his wins coming against Air Force's Max Galvin, 6-3, 6-4 and Northern Arizona's Adi Zilberstein, 6-4, 6-4.Â
Wildcats
Hunter Holman,
Paul Domanski and
Jackson Fine all went 1-3 against their respective flights with wins coming against opposition from Northern Arizona and New Mexico State. Holman played up several spots this weekend at No. 1 and had three of his matches decided in a third set, including his win over NAU's Feliz Schumann, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
ACU's combined doubles record was 4-8 with the tandems of Langdon /
Brad Gleason and Lawson / Fine each went 2-2. Lawson and Fine placed second of five teams with a 6-2 win over Air Force and 6-4 decision against New Mexico. Langdon and Gleason's wins were against Air Force, 6-3, and New Mexico State, 6-4.
Men's tennis returns to competition in two weeks for the start of the ITA Regionals hosted by TCU Oct. 21-24.
