ABILENE – Third-year Abilene Christian volleyball coach Jason Bibler Tuesday announced the hiring of Breann Nesselhuf as assistant coach. Nesselhuf replaces former Wildcat standout IJ Moronu, who resumed her professional playing career in Europe late last year following three full seasons as an ACU assistant.
Nesselhuf's primary responsibilities with the Wildcats will involve working with the setters and coordinating the offense in addition to handling a large portion of recruiting.
"I'm excited to have Bre as a member of our volleyball program and family," said Bibler, who helped guide his team to a fourth-place record of 9-7 during ACU's third year in the Southland Conference. "Bre is a great fit for ACU in every aspect. She adds a high level of experience playing and coaching at the D1 level that will help us progress through the last year of this transition."
Nesselhuf's Broncos finished 23-7 last season and second in the Mountain West at 15-3 but were left out of the NCAA Championship despite winning their final nine matches and 15 of their last 16 contests. Additionally, five of Boise State's players made all-conference, including outside hitter Sierra Nobley and setter Sarah Baugh who went on to receive all-region recognition from AVCA.
Nesselhuf worked closely with Baugh as the Broncos' setting coach since 2013. She also analyzed offensive game statistics and broke down video alongside her players.
"One of my favorite aspects of coaching is developing players and watching their development evolve into a successful program," said Nesselhuf. "I had the opportunity to watch Boise State evolve over seven years into what is now a very successful and elite program. It takes a lot of hard work and time recruiting the right athletes and developing the existing players but the years of work is such a rewarding process. I'm looking forward to watch ACU develop and evolve in to an successful and elite program as well."
Nesselhuf's off-the-court tasks at Boise State included management of a volleyball booster club, corresponding with a large network of alumni, and coordinating summer camps; however, one of her biggest achievements was developing the school's sand volleyball program in 2014. Not only did Nesselhuf teach the indoor players to be skilled sand competitors, but she also promoted the sport through personal training and entry into several regional sand tournaments.
Prior to her being named a full-time assistant coach, Nesslehuf served the Broncos for one season as a graduate manager from May 2012 to 2013, and was also a club coach and administrator for the Boise Volleyball Club.
Before making the move into coaching, Nesselhuf was a three-time all-Mountain West Conference honoree at setter for Boise State and finished fifth all-time there with 3,075 career assists and fourth with 8.91 assists per set. The three-year team captain and two-time MVP also recorded second-most assists during a single-season with 1,331 (2010) and earned three academic all-conference citations.
A native of Swink, Colo., Nesselhuf earned her B.A. in psychology from Boise State in 2012 and is currently working toward earning a M.A. in athletic leadership.
