ABILENE – Abilene Christian men's tennis continues its week-long road swing Friday with a doubleheader at the George R. Brown Tennis Center vs. Prairie View A&M and No. 58 Rice.
Match times are 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
RiceOwls.com will offer live stats and video of its dual vs. the Wildcats.
The Wildcats are coming off a season-opening 7-0 loss Tuesday at No. 12 Texas while the Panthers and Owls are making their spring debuts.
Against the Longhorns, the Wildcat doubles team of
Sebastian Langdon and sophomore
Brad Gleason nearly pulled off the upset at No. 3, falling to Colin Markes and Harrison Scott, 7-6 (2). At No. 1, the ACU tandem of sophomore
Henry Adams and freshman
Josh Sheehy was edged, 6-4, and at No. 2 sophomore
Paul Domanski and senior
Jason Proctor were doubled up, 6-3.
Sheehy made his collegiate debut at the top-line and just fell short in his match against George Goldhoff. The Longhorn junior won the first set 6-1, and then lost 6-3 before rebounding to win the super-tiebreaker, 10-6, with the match already in hand as all other matches were decided in straight sets.
Rice finished last spring at 12-14, reaching the Conference USA Championship match where the Owls lost to UTSA, 4-2. One of their 12 wins, however, was against the Wildcats.
ACU and Prairie View A&M last met in April of 2014 with the Wildcats winning 7-0.
