Wildcats set to host UIW in Southland series

Baseball | 5/13/2015 4:03:00 PM

ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats return home this weekend to play their final home series of the season as they Incarnate Word in a Southland Conference series at Crutcher Scott Field.

The three-game set between the teams is set to begin Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a Friday game at 2 p.m. and the season home finale at 12 p.m. Saturday. All three games can be seen and heard on acusports.com.

The Wildcats enter the series having lost four straight games since sweeping New Orleans (May 1-3) in a Southland Conference series. Since that series sweep, the Wildcats were swept at home by Northwestern State last weekend and lost at No. 3 TCU, 8-2, Tuesday night.

ACU is 13-35 overall and 11-16 in the conference and in ninth place in the league standings. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are 19-29 and 10-17 in the league.  This weekend's series will be the final home games for seven ACU seniors: Tyler Eager, Colton Hall, Jordan Forrester, Kevin Sheets, Ladgie Zotyka, Thomas Altimont and Joe Gawrieh.

Eager continues to lead the team offensively, hitting .293 with one home run and 29 RBI, while sophomore third baseman Aaron Draper is hitting .278 with 14 RBI from the leadoff spot. Sophomore second baseman Russell Crippen is hitting .272 with a team-best three home runs and 25 RBI.

Eager enters his final seven games as a Wildcat fifth on the Wildcats' all-time hit list with 244 career hits, just 12 hits away from tying Ryan Barker (256 hits from 2002-05) for fourth place on the all-time list. Eager is also seventh on the all-time list with 46 doubles, tied for seventh with 10 career triples and ninth with 316 career total bases.

ACU head coach Britt Bonneau is scheduled to send senior right-hander Thomas Altimont to the mound Thursday night, followed by junior right-hander Nate Cole on Friday and sophomore right-hander Garrett deMeyere on Saturday. Altimont is 307 with a 3.81 ERA, while Cole is 0-2 with a 3.55 ERA and deMeyere is 3-5 with a 5.01 ERA.
