ABILENE, Texas - With a looming threat of severe thunderstorms in the forecast, the Abilene Christian men's tennis team made quick work of neighboring Hardin-Simmons by shutting out the Cowboys, 7-0, Thursday evening at the Eager Tennis Pavilion.
The victory was ACU's 10th of the season and its third shutout of the spring. The Wildcats are now finished with their dual season and won't return to action until next week when they begin a four-day run at the Ojai (Calif.) Tournament, April 23-26.
The closest score in doubles was an 8-4 decision at No. 1 by senior
Guilherme Gesser and
Nico Agritelley, while in singles the Cowboys couldn't score any more than three points.
Agritelley and Marco Bensely eached pitched shutouts of their opponents at the No. 2 and 6 positions, and at No. 3 and 4, junior
Jason Proctor and freshman
Paul Domanski only allowed one point.
With the victory, Agritelley finished the dual season with an impressive 19-7 record and was a perfect 6-0 at No. 2. Bensley also finished with an above .500 mark at 15-9 with 11 of those wins coming at No. 6.
