Women's basketball finishes regular-season at 17-12 following loss at Corpus

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi avenged their 35-point loss to the Abilene Christian women's basketball team from earlier this season with a 60-40 win Saturday afternoon at the American Bank Center.
The victory gives Corpus Christi a final regular-season record of 16-13 (12-6 Southland) and first-round bye at next week's Southland Conference Championships in Katy, Texas, while the Wildcats wrap up their regular season at 17-12 (9-9 Southland).
ACU has been in contact with representatives from the Women's Basketball Invitational in recent weeks with hopes of playing in their postseason tournament, but that field won't be officially known until shortly after the NCAA has its own selection show.
Today the Wildcats shot .241 (14-58) from the field and connected on just 6-of-24 3-point attempts as the Islanders went into the break ahead 36-21 before outscoring them by five points, 24-19, in the second half.
Junior Whitney West led the ACU offense with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while Suzzy Dimba came up two points shy of a double-double with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds. She also blocked a shot and came up with one steal.
The Wildcats' defense held the Islanders to less than 40 percent shooting (.396), but had a hard time silencing forward Oliva Fouty, who registered a 14-point / 10-rebound double-double complete with two blocks, and guard Shay Weaver, who made half her baskets in finishing the game with 20 points. Weaver additionally was 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
Islanders' starting guard Jennifer Ramirez led all players with six assists.
