Team and Individual Results
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Abilene Christian Golf finished 14th at the UALR / First Tee Classic hosted by the Chenal Country Club, which is the home course of senior Corbin Renner and youngest of the Carpenter brothers, Luke, who is in the midst of his senior year.
"Corbin played a very solid tournament against one of the best fields we've faced all year," said ACU head golf coach Tom Shaw. "It was a terrific and challenging course which will prepare us well for our conference championship in a few weeks. We were also treated to some great home-town hospitality by the Carpenter and Renner families this week - it felt like a home game for us. I wish every tournament was like this one because the guys had a blast."
Renner once again carded the Wildcats' lowest score over three rounds - a 2-over 218, which tied him for 17th place - but all of his teammates placed outside the top-25 and ACU ended up finishing 43-strokes over par at 907.
Renner recorded individual rounds of 73, 74 and 71 on the par-72 course. Junior Dillon Vaughn was second to Renner on the team at 6-over 222, while freshman Clarke Hudgins was third on the team at 8-over 224.
"Dillon and Clarke continue to give our team solid performances," added Shaw. "They are getting closer each week to breaking through and really accomplishing some special things. Their good play each week makes me excited for the team's future."
Tulsa won the team championship over 15 other schools with a score of 2-over 866 led by individual medalist Matt Mabrey (6-under 210) and fourth-place finisher Colton Staggs (4-under 212).
The Wildcats return to action next week, April 6-7, for the Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Lost Pines Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas. They will then be off from competition until April 20, when the Wildcats begin the first of three rounds at the Southland Conference Championships at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
