COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Nationally ranked No. 9 Texas A&M defeated the Abilene Christian men's tennis team, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center to improve to 8-3 on the season.
The Aggies won all but two of their matches vs. the Wildcats (6-13) with both of those ACU victories earned by junior
Marco Bensley. The native of Stellenbosch, South Africa first teamed with senior
Guilherme Gesser at No. 3 doubles and prevented an A&M sweep by edging the team of Jett Cash and Jordi Arconada in a tiebreaker, 6-5 (9-7).
Bensley later won the last singles match of the day, holding on to defeat Max Montague, 6-3, 7-5, which lifted his season mark to 10-8.
Freshman
Henry Adams also had a solid showing in singles and doubles despite going 0-2. His doubles match with partner
Nico Agritelley was a close 6-4 decision, and his singles contest vs. Frankie Colunga was nearly pushed to a third set before the Aggie ultimately prevailed, 6-3, 7-5.
The Wildcats return to action Tuesday for dual vs. Monmouth at the T Bar M Racquet Club in Dallas. Later in the week they'll play host to a doubleheader Saturday vs. McMurry and College of the Southwest, starting at 9 a.m.
