ABILENE - Abilene Christian's men's tennis team continues its season-opening road swing with four duals scheduled over the next two days in Kentucky and Tennessee.
The Wildcats (0-2) start their trip Thursday with a doubleheader in Murray, Ky. vs. the host Racers (0-2) at Kenlake State Park followed by a 5 p.m. contest vs. Lipscomb (2-2). The Bisons are part of the Atlantic Sun Conference, and Murray State is in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Friday's doubleheader starts with a 10 a.m. match in Murray, Ky. vs. Bethel University of McKenzie, Tennessee and concludes at 3 p.m. vs. Austin Peay (1-0) in Clarksville, Tenn. Bethel is a NAIA School based in the Southern States Athletic Conference, while the Governors of Austin Peay compete alongside Murray State in the OVC.
ACU's spring season got off to a tough start last weekend in Dallas the Wildcats lost on back-to-back days to Troy, 5-2, and SMU, 7-0.
ACU's lone victories vs. the Trojans were earned by sophomore Nico Agritlley at No. 3 singles and freshman
Paul Domanski at the No. 6 position. Agritelley, who led the Wildcats in victories a season ago, defeated Daniel Bustamante, 6-0, 6-3, while Domanski handled Austin Racine, 6-3, 6-1.
Against the Mustangs, the Wildcats captured a 6-4 decision at No. 1 singles as senior
Guilherme Gesser and Agritelley outlasted Arturs Kazijevs and Markus Kerner, but lost in a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles where Samm Butler and Tony Russell escaped with 7-6 (5) victory over ACU junior
Marco Bensley and freshman
Henry Adams.
The Wildcats additionally dropped their six singles matches to SMU, but both Agritelley and Bensley displayed some resiliency in pushing theirs to a third set tiebreak. Unfortunately, Agritelley fell to Butler at No. 3, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, while Bensley lost his match at No. 6 to Charles Nettlefold, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
