LAKE CHARLES, La. – The ACU golf team gets its first NCAA Division I spring season started Monday morning when the Wildcats tee it up in the 51st annual Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate at the Lake Charles Country Club.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament gets started with an 8 a.m. shotgun start over the par-72, 6,764-yard layout. All teams will play 36 holes Monday, followed by a final 18 holes Tuesday. The Lake Charles area has been hit by heavy rains the last few days and the course is soaked, but ACU head coach Mike Campbell said the start times shouldn't be affected if the area doesn't get anymore rain.
Fellow Southland Conference schools McNeese State, Incarnate Word, New Orleans, Nicholls State and Stephen F. Austin will be in the field, along with Belhaven, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Prairie View A&M, Texas-Pan American, Texas Southern and Western Illinois.
Houston Baptist won the tournament last year, but the Huskies won't be back this year to defend their team championship.
ACU head coach Mike Campbell will send out Corbin Renner, Trey Sullivan, Luke Carpenter, Ian Evans and Kaden Walters.
After opening the spring season Monday and Tuesday, the Wildcats will be back in action March 2-4 at the Querencia Caob Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico.
