Wildcats celebrate several victories at meets based in Lubbock and Seattle

Husky Classic Meet Results | Red Raider Open Meet Results
ABILENE - Valentine's Day was full of sweet occasions for the Abilene Christian Track and Field program Friday as the men's and women's teams combined to capture five victories and nearly a dozen personal bests while going against two competitive fields at the Husky Classic and Red Raider Open.
The first results received today were from Seattle, where five Wildcats are competing at the University of Washington. Senior Reyare Thomas got ACU off to a great start in winning the 200-meter dash in 24.02 seconds and sophomore Johnathan Farquharson completed the Wildcat sweep a few minutes later, claiming a first-place time of 21.88 seconds.
Thomas was in the 15th and final heat of the 200 and beat three competitors, including third-place finisher Ashley Marshall, who came in a half second behind at 24.56. The runner-up time of 24.11 belonged to Stanford's seven-time all-America and Nike sponsored Kori Carter.
Carter won last summer's NCAA championship in the 400m hurdles with a collegiate record time of 53.21.
Farquharson recorded his winning time in the ninth and final section against just one other competitor - Chris Wilson of Montana State (22.32). Zac Schlachter of Seattle was the runner-up in 22.17 and Rashaun Johnson of Washington State placed third out of the seventh heat in 22.28.
Senior Baptiste Kerjean also threw tonight at the Husky Classic and finished sixth in the weight throw with a launch of 62-feet-3 inches (18.97m). Competing tomorrow in Seattle will be Daniel Block in the 800m and Farquharson and Darian Hogg in the long jump. Hogg also will participate in the triple jump.
Not to be outdone, the remainder of the Wildcat roster recorded three victories and half a dozen top-five showings at the Red Raider Open, marking the team's second appearance at Texas Tech in three weeks.
In the women's 55-meter hurdles, the Wildcats watched freshmen Ramesheon Marine win the preliminary portion with a personal record of 8.18 seconds. But in the following round, senior Lexus Williams clocked a winning time of 8.11 seconds that is the seventh-fastest time in ACU history. Marine's time is the ninth fastest.
Also victorious for the Wildcats in Lubbock was freshman pole vaulter Kenzie Walker, who tonight climbed into fifth-place on ACU's all-time performance list with a leap of 12 feet-07.50 inches (3.85m). Her nearest competitor was Celsey Randolph of South Plains, who reached a top height of 11-05.75 (3.50m).
Ahead of Walker on the school's indoor pole vault performance list are Angie Aguilar (13-7), Katie Eckley (13-2.5), Jessica Blair (13-1.5) and Meredith Garner (13-0.25).
Elsewhere in the field events tonight, sophomore Jelani Rainey just missed winning the weight throw by a half inch (.01 meters) to Trey Taylor of Texas-Pan American. Taylor's winning throw measured 56-03.75 (17.16m), and Rainey's was at 56-03.25 (17.15m), which is still good for seventh place all-time in ACU history.
A similar story played out in the women's weight throw as senior Shalania Lakey finished as the runner-up to UT-Pan American's Jasmine Davison by a quarter inch, 56-2.00 (17.12m) to 56-01.75 (17.11m). ACU's Lauren Hartwick, meanwhile, was the third-place finisher with a top throw of 51-10.50 (15.81m).
In the long jump, Malcolm Barnes was second to Incarnate Word's Matthew Harris with a leap of 21-8 (6.60m), and in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles, Jeremy Tatham placed fourth in 7.78 seconds.
Freshman Diana Garcia Munoz had a strong third-place showing in the women's mile, coming in behind the Tarleton State duo of Lindsey Hinton and Aly Coughlin with a time of 5:11.78.
