Wildcats Fall 1-0 To St. Edward’s During TWU’s Best Western Premier Spring Fling

DENTON – Abilene Christian lost its second-straight one-run decision and the services of its first team all-conference pitcher Peyton Mosley as St. Edward's held onto a 1-0 victory vs. the Wildcats Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Texas Woman's University.

The loss dropped ACU to 14-11, while the Hilltoppers evened their record at 13-13.

Mosley pitched a scoreless first and was one out into the second when a line drive off the bat of Kendall Lucas caught her square in the face, resulting in a broken nose. It is unknown when she'll be able to return.

Senior Caitlyn Crain (6-5) took over from there and allowed just one run on five hits over the next 4.2 innings, but that's all the Hilltoppers and their starter Katelyn Klug (2-5) would need to secure the win.

Klug was threatened in the first, but got out of a jam with runners at the corners and one out after getting both Lyndi Smith and Heather Peacock to fly out. She left three more runners stranded in scoring position between the fourth and sixth innings before retiring the side in order in the seventh.

St. Edward's scored its lone run in the third on back-to-back base hits from Marissa Thome and Lauren Brode. Lucas and Brode each finished the game 2-for-3.

ACU will play the Hilltoppers again tomorrow at 10 a.m. followed by a noon game with Texas A&M-International. The Wildcats beat the Dustdevils in their season opener, 10-0.
