Big second-half run by Tulsa dooms cold-shooting Wildcats in 81-61 loss

TULSA, Okla. -- Tulsa went on a 14-0 run midway through the second half Saturday afternoon as the Golden Hurricanes pulled away from a cold-shooting ACU women's team as Tulsa beat the Wildcats, 81-61, in a women's basketball non-conference game at the Donald. W. Reynolds Center.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 6-3 on the season, while Tulsa improves to 4-3. ACU will be back in action Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts Texas Wesleyan in the first half of a men's women's doubleheader at Moody Coliseum (men vs. Bacone College at 7:30 p.m. The ACU women are then back on the road Wednesday when they go to Fort Worth to take on TCU at 7 p.m. at Daniel Meyer Coliseum.

The Wildcats trailed Tulsa, 42-23, after the Golden Hurricane went on a 23-10 run over the final 6:37 of the first half, turning a 19-13 lead into a 19-point halftime advantage.

ACU came out of the halftime lockerroom and scored the first 11 points of the second half to cut the Tusla lead to 42-34 with 17:11 left in the game. Suzzy Dimba -- who finished with her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds -- had four points in the run, as did Whitney West, while Renata Marquez had three points. West's layup 2:49 into the half were the final points in the half-opening run.

Tulsa, however, answered with five straight points to push the lead back to 13 points. ACU, though, got the deficit back to just six points behind a pair of 3-pointers by Suzzy Dimba, five points from Lizzy Dimba and two from Marquez.

Marquez hit a layup with 12:02 to play to cut the lead to 53-47, but Tulsa answered with a 14-0 run over the next 3:36 to push the lead to 20 points at 67-47. Ashley Clark had six of her team-high 14 points in the game-deciding run.

ACU hit just 22 of 65 shots from the field (33.8 percent), including just 5 of 30 from 3-point range (16.7 percent). The Wildcats were also out-rebounded 50-38 by Tulsa, which was led by Mariah Turner's eight rebounds.

Aside from Suzzy Dimba's team-high 16 points, Marquez had 14 points and Lizzy Dimba 14 off the bench for the Wildcats.
