Corbin Renner was once again the Wildcats' golf team's highest finisher at this week's HBU Huskies Invitational, tying for 17th place with McNeese State's Hampus Bergman at 2-over 215.
This week's event – ACU's second of the fall season – was hosted by Houston Baptist University at the 7,200-yard, par-71 Woodforest Golf Club.
Renner yesterday recorded rounds of 70 and 69, but could not match those scores today as he settled for a 5-over-76. Senior
Trey Sullivan was the Wildcats' next highest finisher with a 26th-place total of 6-over-219 as he fired a 73 through each of the three rounds.
With only two golfers placing among the top 30, ACU placed ninth as a team at 34-over 886. The Wildcats finished one stroke behind Incarnate Word and five ahead of 10th-place New Orleans, both of which are in the Southland Conference.
Arkansas-Little Rock won the team title by one stroke at 8-under-844 over Louisiana Monroe, which claimed individual champion Charlie Maceneal (6-under-207). Three players, including Macneal's teammate Mason Seaborn, tied for second at 5-under-208, while Blake Pugh of Stephen F. Austin finished fifth at 3-under-210.
Houston Baptist was the tournament's top Southland Conference team, placing third at 1-over 853. McNeese State finished six strokes behind the Huskies to place fourth and Florida Atlantic rounded out the top five with a score of 11-over-863.
Southland schools Stephen F. Austin (25-over-277) and Nicholls State (31-over-883) were sixth and seventh.
The Wildcats return to action next Monday Oct. 7 for the start of the Harold Funston Invitational in Huntsville, Texas.
