
ACU Names Its October Student-Athletes Of The Month

ABILENE – Members of the ACU Athletics Department Wednesday selected Adam Carpenter, Micah Hermsdorf, Garrett Langthorp and Arielle Moncure as the October Student-Athletes of the Month in recognition of their recent academic achievements.
The Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union sponsors the monthly award.
• Adam Carpenter (Golf / Sr. / Little Rock, Ark.): Carpenter, a double major in finance and management, owns a 3.96 grade-point average, and last year was honored with several academic awards, including the title of Lone Star Conference Academic Golfer of the Year. Carpenter also has been named twice to the conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll. As a freshman, Carpenter was part of the Wildcats' Lone Star Conference Championship team and received second team all-conference honors.
• Micah Hermsdorf (Tennis / Jr. / Spring, Texas): Hermsdorf was one of the Wildcats' most decorated student-athletes on and off the court during the spring of 2011 as she earned the distinction of Capital One Academic All-America and Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year. Hermsdorf and her doubles partner Hannah Kelley also were honored with ITA All-America citations after helping ACU reach the NCAA Championship semifinals behind their 18-4 record. Hermsdorf is an advertising and public relations major with a 4.0 grade-point average.
• Garrett Langthorp (Football / Jr. / Conroe, Texas): Langthorp, a social studies teaching major with a 3.75 grade-point average, is in his first year at ACU. The 6-foot-3 offensive lineman previously played at Blinn College from 2009 to 2010 and was on the 2009 team that won the national championship, quarterbacked by Heisman Trophy winner and current Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton. Langthorp was a second team all-conference selection as a sophomore.
• Arielle Moncure (Soccer / Sr. / Leawood, Kan.): Moncure is the starting goalkeeper for the ACU soccer team and has a 3.78 grade-point average through her first six semesters as an advertising and public relations major. She is also a four-year letterwinner who has made 89 career saves through her 28 appearances and 14 starts. Moncure was named to the Lone Star Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll following the 2011-12 season, and this year – her first as the Wildcats' full-time starter - she has pitched shutouts against Our Lady of the Lake and Nebraska-Kearney.
