Freshman Reed Named Lone Star Conference's Player of the Week

ABILENE - Abilene Christian's Brittney Reed Wednesday was selected for the first time this season as the Lone Star Conference's Player of the Week, joining a long list of teammates that already includes Hans Hach, Micah Hermsdorf, Julia Mongin, and Nick Plum.

Reed was honored in recognition of her performances during last week's road victories against #17 Cal State L.A. and #21 UC San Diego.

The Richland, Wash., native was one of several Wildcats to go undefeated vs. the Golden Eagles and Tritons, but those four wins lifted her season singles record to 21-3 and doubles mark to 20-3 - both of which are team highs.

Reed won each of her doubles matches in shutout fashion, first teaming up with Madelyn Walker at No. 3, and then Laura Mongin at the No. 2 position.

In singles, she first beat Golden Eagle Leora Hemmerich, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, at the No. 3 line, and the following day at No. 4, she defeated Katie Mulloy, 6-3, 6-0. Reed has won her last four singles matches as well as 11 straight in doubles, with her last loss taking place on March 2 vs. Tarleton State.

Reed and the Wildcats return to action this weekend, Friday and Saturday, for the 2012 Firestone Lone Star Conference Championship in Southlake, Texas.
