Peyton Mosley Named The LSC's Co-Pitcher of the Week

2012 Best West Premier Spring Fling Tournament Web Site

ABILENE
 - Abilene Christian sophomore Peyton Mosley Thursday was selected by the Lone Star Conference as its Co-Pitcher of the Week along with West Texas A&M senior Marci Womack. Mosley is the second Wildcat this season to be honored with a conference citation, joining junior outfielder Keanna Winkfield, who was named Hitter of the Week on Feb. 8.

Mosley was recognized for her efforts in winning two difficult games last weekend at a rain-shortened invitational hosted by Midwestern State. She first pitched all 9.0 innings in a 4-3 win over the No. 20 Mustangs, and then tossed 3.0 more scoreless innings of relief against Fort Hays State.

Mosley's clutch pitching allowed the Wildcats to rally from behind in each contest. The Mustangs roughed up Mosley in the first inning of game one as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but she allowed just four more hits afterward. Two of those hits came in the seventh inning as MSU loaded the bases with one out, but Mosley left them all stranded on consecutive infield pop flies.

Then in the ninth, with ACU clinging to a 4-3 lead, Mosley left the game-tying run at third base after getting the No. 9 hitter out on a fly ball to left.

ACU head coach Bobby Reeves next used Mosley as a reliever against Fort Hays State, bringing her to the circle in the fifth with runners in scoring position, no outs, and the Wildcats down 4-0. Mosley responded to the challenge by whiffing the first two batters she faced before getting an infield fly to extinguish the scoring threat.  Mosley went on to retire the side in order in the sixth, and left another runner stranded in scoring position in the seventh.

The Wildcats made a winner out of Mosley (3-1) by scoring seven times on her behalf in the bottom of the inning, capped by catcher Erin Gilliland's three-run walkoff home run. The Wildcats return to action this weekend in Denton, Texas for the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling, which is being touted by host Texas Woman's as the second largest NCAA Division II softball tournament in the nation.

All 42 games between 17 teams will take place on one of four fields located within Denton's North Lakes Park (map). The Wildcats will play their first game Friday at noon on Field 3 vs. Central Missouri followed by a match with UT-Permian Basin at 2:15 p.m.

Saturday, ACU has the early games on Field 1, playing Texas A&M-International at 9 a.m. and St. Edward's at 11:30 a.m. The Wildcats also play the 9 a.m. game on Field 4 Sunday vs. Pittsburg State.
