ACU Hoops At Home For Sunday & Wednesday Games

ABILENE - Abilene Christian's men's and women's basketball teams will finish the home portion of their regular season schedules with games this Sunday and Wednesday vs. Texas A&M - Kingsville and Commerce.

The games will be broadcast by Grant Boone locally on 1280 KSLI AM, and over the world wide web via YoeTV.org.

The Wildcats generally play Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons, but each doubleheader was moved back a day to in order to accommodate this weekend's Sing Song performances. Sunday's tip times are 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday's games begin at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

With only three games remaining vs. Lone Star Conference opponents, both Wildcat squads currently find themselves missing from the eight-team postseason tournament bracket.

The men's team is 11-14 overall and 3-12 against the league following Wednesday night's 79-73 loss at Incarnate Word. The defeat kept ACU tied for eighth with Angelo State, which faces the Cardinals tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The women's team has won its last two conference games to improve to 10-13 overall and 5-12 vs. the LSC, but it remains 2.0 games out of eighth behind both Incarnate Word and the Javelinas.

Kingsville's ladies defeated the Wildcats, 78-72, in their first meeting on Jan. 7. Kelsey Smith led all players that night with 28 points and 10 rebounds, but as a team, ACU shot just 43.6 percent (27 of 62) from the field and committed 28 turnovers.

The ACU men did not fare much better in losing to the Javelinas, 72-59. The game was tied 38-38 early in the second half when Kingsville went on a game-changing 26-8 spurt over a span of 11 minutes, 30 seconds.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Dosh Simms, who had 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, while Zach Williams had 11 points.

Commerce owns the worst conference record on both sides of the standings. The Lion men are 7-16 overall and 2-13 vs. the LSC, while the women are a woeful 1-22 and 0-17.

Senior Sarah Reno will be recognized for her contributions to the women's program prior to Sunday's game. Men's seniors Eric Kibi, Ben Warton, Zach Williams, and Desmond Woodberry will be honored Wednesday night.
