ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 6 ACU men's tennis season came to a halt at the hands of the defending NCAA DII National Champions falling, 5-0 to No. 5 Barry (Fla.) University in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA National Championships on Thursday at Sanlando Park.
The Wildcats fell behind early to the defending champs dropping three close doubles matches. The Bucs took the momentum of a, 3-0 lead into singles play needing only two wins to move into Friday's National Semifinal.
With ACU leading four of the six singles matches, Barry used convincing wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles to end the Wildcats season.
Alfredo Desiati fell to Marco Mokrzycki, 6-0, 6-1 while
John Strahl fell, 6-1, 6-3 giving the Buccaneers the two points they needed.
The loss ends the Wildcats season for the second consecutive year in the quarterfinal round after losing last year's national runner-up Valdosta State, 5-1. ACU finishes the season at 20-10 while Barry moves to 21-7 and into the tomorrow's semifinal against Concordia (N.Y.) looking for their second straight National Championship.
