Bats Quiet As ACU Drops a Pair

SAN ANGELO – Untimely hitting proved costly for the Wildcats as they dropped both games on the final day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover on Sunday falling to Southwestern Oklahoma, 3-0 and Central Oklahoma, 6-1 at the Texas Bank Sports Complex.
The sweep moved the Wildcats record to 21-21 on the season as North Division teams dominated the Crossover as they had taken 29 of 40 games by day's end. Midwestern State won the tournament title as they were one of three North Division teams to go 5-1 winning the title by virtue of allowing the least runs (5) during the tournament. UCO and East Central were both also 5-1.
Southwestern Oklahoma had solid pitching and defense although ACU out hit the Bulldogs, 8-3. ACU was unable to cross home in the day's first game in a pitcher's duel with freshman Peyton Mosely and Kaite Raines.
Mosely pitched her best game of the season going six strong innings only allowing three hits and three runs. However, the three runs would be all SWOSU needed as they blanked the Wildcats, 3-0.
Tiana Tuinei had a pair of hits as did Ashley Calles, but the Wildcats struggled to move runners leaving seven on base in game one.
Game two was just as unfair as the Wildcat offense never woke. ACU managed only five hits while UCO had 10 hits in the game including a two run homer from Brittany Weaver.
The Wildcats got their only run of the day as Tuinei hit a sacrifice fly that nearly left the yard to score Kaylee Crozier who pinch ran for Kara Stutesman. Stutesman just over the second basemen's head into right to reach for her only hit of the day.

ACU again failed to move runners against the Bronchos as they left five on base to finish the LSC Crossover 1-4.
ACU will return to action next weekend as they resume Lone Star Conference action on the road in Denton. The Wildcats open a three-game series with Texas Woman's on Friday at 6 p.m. and close with a double-header on Saturday.
