Rambelles Shutout Wildcats, 2-0

SAN ANGELO – Kaycee Taylor hit a lead-off home run for No. 17 Angelo State as they shutout ACU, 2-0 to open an important three game Lone Star Conference series at the ASU Softball Complex on Thursday night snapping the Wildcats brief three game winning streak.
ACU falls to 26-24 and 9-7 in the South Division as starter Brittany Rexroat saw her three-game winning streak snapped to fall to 12-8 on the year. ASU who leads the Division now at 12-4 and improved to 37-8 on the season as the Wildcats continue to make a push for the one of four spot in next month's Conference Tournament.
Both pitchers were solid, however, Clarissa Molina came out on the winning end holding the Wildcat bats' to only four hits in the complete game shutout. Molina also struck out four and walked two.
Rexroat scattered 10 hits only allowing the two runs while she struck out one and walked none. However, she could not get any run support dropping her eighth game of the year.
The Wildcats offense had two runners on in the top of the second with one out when Candice Miller was hit by a pitch and Lyndi Smith singled, but a fly ball and strikeout ended the ACU threat. The top of the order had three of the four hits for ACU as Missy Mendoza recorded her 75th hit of the season just 11 shy of the single season record.
ASU also had chances to score after Brittany Astle doubled in the second, but was thrown out trying to steal. Another double and single from the Rambelles put runners in scoring position again, however Rexroat got Taylor to pop up ending the ASU threat.
The Wildcats will close out the series on Friday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m. from the ASU Softball Complex.
