UNIVERSAL CITY – A final day comeback was not in the cards for the Wildcat golf team on Wednesday as they fell short of a second consecutive Lone Star Conference Championship with a third place finish behind Champion Central Oklahoma and Cameron at Randolph Oaks Golf Club on the Randolph Air Force Base.

Since Division play began only two Texas schools had won the Championship, ACU last year and Texas A&M-Commerce in 1999. That streak held true in the last Championship with five Oklahoma schools leaving the conference at the end of this year.

The Wildcats began the day just 2 shots back however, only two players would record scores below par, Alex Carpenter at -2 and Trey Sullivan at -1. Carpenter finished -3 for the tournament and had reached four under after a birdie on the par-3 No. 15. However, a bogey on No. 16 and 18 left Carpenter -2 on the day and -2 for the tournament. His two rounds below par put him in fourth place and earned a spot on the LSC All-Tournament Team.

Sullivan whose best spring finish was a 20th place finish at the DBU Patriot Invite finished tied for 14th. Sullivan only had one bogey in his round on Wednesday after a birdie on No. 2 set him at even as he made the turn. A birdie on the par-4 No. 13 allowed Su

llivan to finish with five pars for a -1, 71 and four over for the Championship.

All five players finished in the top 25 as Tyler Sheppard was two over in his final round to finish at +3 for the tournament. Last year's Co-Champion Cyril Bouniol tied for 14th as he only managed one birdie on the day for a +2, 74 after yesterday's 69.

ACU will take a week off to prepare for the NCAA South Central/Midwest Super Regional in Georgetown, Kentucky. The Wildcats will head to the Regional Tournament looking for their appearance at the National Tournament since 2007 when action tees off from Cherry Blossom Golf Club on May 2nd.
