ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats continued to put themselves in must win situations as the split a double-header with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday as their bats exploded for a 9-0 in five innings in game one while errors cost the Wildcats game two falling 8-4 in the night cap at Wells Field.
Both squads continue to sit at the .500 mark on the season at 23-23 while the Wildcats moved to 8-6 in league play while the Javelinas are 4-10 in South Division play. The rubber game of the three game series will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday from Wells Field.
The ACU offense got 12 hits scoring four runs in the second and third innings while
Brittany Rexroat scattered seven hits, but got key outs for the shutout and to get back in the win column. Rexroat moved her record to 10-7 after hitting a tough stretch, but she locked in on Friday striking out five batters and walking none.
Every starter except
Sarah Martinez recorded a hit for ACU, however, Martinez was able to reach base twice. Three Wildcats had a pair of RBIs respectively including Missy Mendoza,
Erin Gilliland, and
Ashley Calles.
Game two was less friendly for the Wildcat offense as they only managed six hits, but three errors proved costly as the Javelinas recorded eight runs on 12 hits. Starter
Shelby Hall and Peyton Mosely who come on in the third both only allowed three earned runs each. Mosely also struck out four while Hall picked up her 11th loss of the season.
Mendoza recorded her just one hit on the afternoon in game one and went 0-for-2 in the night cap. Her hit gives her 70 on the season a pulls her 16 hits shy of the single season record with nine games left.
