ABILENE – After dominating the Lone Star Conference all season, the 7th-ranked ACU men's tennis team needed every match to take down 19th-ranked Cameron, 5-4 on Wednesday at the Cecil Eager Tennis Center and claim the top seed heading into next weekend's Lone Star Conference Championships.
The Wildcats improved to 16-9 on the season and finish the LSC regular season a perfect 5-0. The LSC regular season champs will take the No. 1 seed to Oklahoma City next weekend for the Conference Championships while Cameron will be the No. 3 seed finishing at 3-2.
The Aggies took two of the three doubles points winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, 8-4 and 8-6.
However, the Wildcats would rally behind Hans Hoch at No. 1 singles winning a close match, 7-6, 6-2 to pace the way. Jake Hendire at No. 3 singles would also be tested before prevailing 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Manuel Barroetavena.
ACU will be looking for their third consecutive tournament title where they have also won 7 of the last 9 tournaments. Last year the Wildcats knocked off Cameron in the championship shutting out the Aggies, 5-0.
